The HSF Molecular R&D Center integrates cutting-edge synthetic biology technologies and multidisciplinary R&D expertise, dedicated to analyzing and reconstructing life systems at the molecular level and advancing biomanufacturing from the laboratory to industrial scale. The HSF Molecular Laboratory boasts core technology platforms, including independent strain library construction, high-throughput screening, protein engineering, and fully automated fermentation.

In 2025, HSF spearheaded the establishment of the Shaanxi Province Synthetic Biology Innovation Center, collaborating with numerous universities and leading enterprises to create an integrated collaborative innovation system encompassing industry, academia, research, and application. With green biomanufacturing as its mission, the center continuously optimizes strain performance and fermentation processes to achieve efficient and green biosynthesis of natural products. It provides key technical support and solutions for functional foods, biopharmaceuticals, green chemicals, and other fields, empowering industrial upgrading and sustainable development.
Construction of HSF fermentation microorganisms
The R&D personnel of HSF Molecular Laboratory conducted a comprehensive analysis of bacterial transcriptome and proteomics, established multiple independent bacterial strain libraries, and carried out directed bacterial strain evolution through targeted domestication using UV and plasma.
HSF Biotech closely focuses on fermentation and molecular biology technologies, studying the structure and function of biomacromolecules (proteins and nucleic acids) at the molecular level, conducting high-throughput screening, clarifying the key functional domains of proteins through molecular docking, and optimizing the key residues in the substrate binding domain.
HSF uses advanced synthetic biology technology to analyze bacterial growth and key enzyme characteristics, and continuously optimizes fermentation conditions such as fermentation temperature, oxygen, pH value, and the amount and method of substrate and nutrient feed. It adopts internationally advanced fully automatic fermentation equipment to accurately control bacterial growth and transformation conditions and produce high-yield fermentation products.
HSF currently possesses a comprehensive microbial strain discovery and optimization platform, a microbial precision fully automated fermentation platform, and an advanced green enzyme engineering development platform. Using molecular biology and microbial strain optimization techniques for in-depth analysis, HSF modifies the metabolic pathways of industrial microorganisms to obtain targeted high-yield strains. Using modern bio-fermentation engineering technology to prepare functional factors, HSF further explores and extracts natural functional ingredients for use in functional food processing, increasing product added value and expanding the breadth and depth of product applications.

The Shaanxi Province Synthetic Biology Innovation Center is a major innovation platform, led by HSF Biotech and jointly established with China Agricultural University,Shaanxi Normal University, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University, and other universities and leading industry companies. Approved for establishment by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology in June 2024, the center leverages the advanced technical support of the National Key Laboratory of Green Biomanufacturing and operates professionally through market-oriented mechanisms, striving to become a core platform for collaborative innovation and industrial application of synthetic biology in Northwest China.
As the lead organization, HSF Biotech fully leverages its industry-leading and resource integration capabilities to drive the center's construction of a full-chain innovation system covering five core platforms: "cell factory R&D, enzyme engineering R&D, pilot process, functional services, and operation management." Taking the creation of core fermentation strains and key enzymes as a breakthrough, it aims to achieve a paradigm shift in natural product biomanufacturing and continuously explore new green and efficient biosynthesis pathways.

PhD, Vice Dean of the College of Life Sciences at Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University. He has won the Second Prize for Excellent Teaching Materials for Graduate Education in Shaanxi Province. He has presided over two National Natural Science Foundation projects and one Shaanxi Provincial Key R&D Program project, and has published numerous SCI papers.

The Center focuses on the following areas:

First, strengthening the supply of original technologies,focusing on core strains, key enzymes, underlying enabling technologies, and intelligent manufacturing, to enhance independent innovation capabilities.。
Second, building a competitive product portfolio,highlighting the unique characteristics of natural product biomanufacturing, and promoting the large-scale development of biopharmaceutical and biochemical products.
Third, developing a regional industrial hub and establishing a Northwest synthetic biology manufacturing base,creating a replicable and scalable Shaanxi model.
Fourth, improving the support and guarantee system,promoting standard development, intellectual property transfer, and financial service innovation, and enhancing the overall competitiveness of the industrial chain.
